In 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) established federal financial transparency reporting requirements to ensure accountability in education funding and to promote equitable resource allocation. Beginning in Fall 2024, data collection of expenditures for the ESSA Financial Transparency Report was combined with data collection for the newly mandated School Level Finance Survey (SLFS). This data is used to satisfy both federally mandated school-level financial reporting requirements.
