Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship     
Due online 11/15 

The 2019 MVS application deadline is November 15, 2018.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2019 competition.

  • Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
  • Male and female students compete separately.

The 2018 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications for the 2019 contest will be available online starting September 1, 2018. The 2019 MVS application deadline is November 15, 2018.

New York Water Environment Association Scholarship
The New York Water Environment Association will be offering a total of twelve (12) $2,500 scholarships and two (2) major scholarships ($10,000 and $5,000) in 2019 for students pursuing a four year degree.

Italian-American State Legislators Scholarships

   Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) and his fellow members of the Conference of Italian-American State Legislators are announcing the availability of applications for their annual scholarship program.

Four scholarships will be awarded, each totaling $3,500. Two will be awarded based on academic achievement (85 average or above) and two will be athletic scholarships.  Any student can apply.

Gemini Scholarship (If attending F.L.C.C.)

FLCC's Gemini Scholarship recognizes the academic achievement of high school seniors who are earning college credit in high school before pursuing full-time studies at FLCC. This scholarship is awarded to twelve students each academic year, and it is worth one half the cost of FLCC's full-time tuition for one year.

Requirements:

  • Complete at least 9 FLCC credits through the Gemini program by January 31, 2018.
  • Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA at FLCC.
  • Applicants must apply for and be accepted to FLCC as a full-time, matriculated student with the intent of enrolling in the fall semester after high school graduation.

The Gemini Scholarship can be applied to in fall and spring semesters only, and is non-renewable. Your Gemini instructor can provide you with the information you need from their Gemini welcome letter instructions. NY State Scholarships for Academic Excellence   provide up to $1,500 per year for up to five years of undergraduate study in New York State. There will be one students receiving $1,500 and two students receiving $500.


  Class of 2019 recipients:
                     Megan Sutherland - $1,500.
      Austin Brace - $500.
                     Sarah Boudinot - $500.


Eligibility:

Students must:

  • Have graduated from a New York State high school
  • Study full time and be matriculated in an approved undergraduate program of study in a New York State post secondary institution
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Not be in default on any State or federal student loan or on any repayment of state awards
  • Be U.S. citizens or qualifying noncitizens
  • Be New York State residents

How are students nominated/awarded?

   Guidance Counselor does calculations based on Regents Exam scores and submits name of winners to the state by February 15th.

DCS uses Method A (Regents test scores) 

   The high school shall select their winner(s) by computing a weighted average of the scores on the Regents examinations and/or approved alternative assessments taken by its students prior to their senior year, in all of the following subjects: The weighing of the scores shall be:
 Comprehensive English - weight of three,
Algebra 2 & Trigonometry - weight of three,
Global History - weight of one,  
U.S. History/Government - weight of one,
Science: At least two, but up to four courses may be included - weight of one for each course.

  ***Excelsior Scholarship (For SUNY colleges)***

Will I be able to attend college at SUNY or CUNY tuition free?

Yes. If you are a NYS resident whose family household Federal adjusted gross income (as filed on your 2017 federal tax returns) does not exceed $125,000 for the 2019-20 academic year and you complete 30 credits per year, you will be able to attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition free.

 How much can I receive from the Excelsior Scholarship?

An Excelsior Scholarship recipient can receive up to $5,500 from the Excelsior Scholarship, minus any amounts received for TAP, Pell or other scholarships. The remainder of your tuition charge will be covered through a tuition credit paid through SUNY or CUNY.

 Will I be able to get an award for the fall?

Yes. Eligible students will receive awards to attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition free this fall.

  Private College - Enhanced Tuition Award

The Enhanced Tuition Awards (ETA) program provides tuition awards to students who are New York State residents attending a participating private college located in New York State. Recipients will receive $6,000 through a combination of their TAP award, ETA award and a match from their private college.

 

An applicant must:

  • be a resident of NYS and have resided in NYS for 12 continuous months prior to the beginning of the term;
  • be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;
  • have either graduated from high school in the United States, earned a high school equivalency diploma, or passed a federally approved “Ability to Benefit” test, as defined by the Commissioner of the State Education Department;
  • have a combined federal adjusted gross income of $110,000 or less;
  • be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a participating private college or university located in New York State;
  • be enrolled in at least 12 credits per term and complete at least 30 credits each year applicable toward his or her degree program, through continuous study with no break in enrollment except for certain reasons that can be documented,;
  • if attended college prior to the 2018-19 academic year, have earned at least 30 credits each year (successively), applicable toward his or her degree program prior to applying for an Enhanced Tuition Award;
  • be in a non-default status on a student loan made under any NYS or federal education loan program or on the repayment of any NYS award;
  • be in compliance with the terms of the service condition(s) imposed by any NYS award(s) that you have previously received; and
  • execute a Contract agreeing to reside in NYS for the length of time the award was received, and, if employed during such time, be employed in NYS.

NYS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Scholarship
   The NYS STEM Incentive Program provides a full SUNY tuition scholarship to the top 10 percent of students in each NYS high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program and agree to live in NYS and work in a STEM field in NYS for five years after graduation.

How to Apply

Complete and submit the NYS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program Application. Be sure to print the Application Confirmation, sign and submit it, along with the required documentation, according to the instructions.
