College Applications

Many colleges and universities now have the option of completing their applications online. Students/parents create an account on the college website, complete information, save it, and then submit it online.

It is CRITICAL for the student or parent to inform the Guidance Counselor that an application has been mailed or submitted online in order for the Guidance Office to send an official transcript to the college. Applications usually have a fee of $20.00 to $75.00. Some community colleges do not have an application fee. Some colleges will waive the application fee if the student has visited the campus and met with Admissions staff or if there is financial need. Fee waivers are available for families that qualify (Free & Reduced Lunch). Ask Guidance Counselor for more information.

The Online SUNY Application allows you to apply to more than one college/university (Brockport, Cortland, Geneseo, etc.) on the same application ($50.00 per college). This is also true of The Common Application for private institutions. The Common Application now includes 18 SUNY colleges. This means that the student can apply to Nazareth, Ithaca as well as SUNY Oneonta, Binghamton, etc. You can not use the Common Application for community colleges.

It is not recommended to apply to community colleges through the SUNY. It is usually less expensive to apply online directly through the colleges website. Corning CC's  and Finger Lakes CC's applications are free. If you use the SUNY application for NYS community colleges, it would be $50.00 per school!
